Ascension is a very big topic and much have been written about this. It is generally said that humanity is now participating in a mass ascension. All of us have incarnated with this knowledge at some level that we are about to make the greatest shift in human consciousness ever experienced on the Earth plane.
All of universe is energy and each entity has its own vibrations and we are focused in a particular dimension. For example, we are now focusing our consciousness on the current dimension. As we ascend, we make the shift from the 3rd to 4th density, a reality that has a higher vibration and also known as one where all will exist in love, peace and harmony or golden age. We will take back our masterhood, reclaiming the knowledge that we have never been separated from God, Source or All That Is. The Earth as an evolving being is also making the shift. In order to make the shift with her, we need to raise our vibrations by changing old beliefs that no longer serve us, overcoming the belief in separation, releasing fears, becoming more loving and growing spiritually.
While some sources suggest that we are moving from the 3rd to 4th density, Kryon (channeled by Lee Carroll) suggests that we are simply becoming multidimensional and leaving linearity.

In all reality, ascension is simply the acceleration of your vibratory frequency to another level; that is it.
It is said that we have undergone ascension many times before and this particular ascension is special in that we will make the ascension without having to leave our human bodies.
