Today, humanity threads precariously on the threshold where the old era of limitation meets the new era of potential. Technological, religious and political changes are now converging into a new future unlike any in the past history of the planet. While some people are excited about the new possibilities, most are fearful of the unknown. We are all keen to know what is in store for humanity.
Right now is the moment when people most need inspiration and guidance. Right now is the time for responsible people to step forward and share positive futures for humanity to choose and create.
Yet today, the movie studios of Hollywood churn out scenario after scenario of how humanity can destroy itself or be conquered by robots and space aliens. The news reports about terrorism, SARS, disasters and stock market chaos only aggravate the fear and panic.
Lost in its nightmares, humanity has forgotten the sweet dreams of the future. This is dangerous: No matter how intelligent we are; we cannot create what we cannot see. Yet, once we have seen, felt and sensed the end product intensely enough, it is only a matter of time before we create it.
But I know that humanity shall not be overrun by robots, self-inflicted disasters or pollution. It shall emerge like a phoenix from the ashes of the nightmare for a new tomorrow. Part of my life mission is to show humanity what a happy ending might look like, so that it will come true.
Right now is the time for responsible people to step forward and share positive futures for humanity to choose and create.
I am a 24 year old writer who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder a few years ago. I always felt that I did not belong on Planet Earth. Marooned on this technologically primitive and isolated world, I yearned to return to my real home far beyond the stars.
Autism also altered my perception in other strange ways. I felt that my body did not belong to me, but was merely a "research submarine" exploring the depths of the "ocean". My "real self" was an observer who monitored and controlled the submarine from a ship on the surface of the "ocean". Elementary concepts such as time, space, emotions, body and ego were as foreign to me as the exotic deep ocean creatures to human beings.
I struggled with the severe limitations of this human body such as linear communications, the inability to clone myself instantly, the delay while things are done. I wished that I could communicate using gigabit fiber optic cables instead of slow speech and draw power from electrical sockets to avoid the trouble of calculating how to remove bones from cooked fish.
I had a very bad impression of humanity, not only from personal experiences such as being bullied, but also my awareness that humanity still struggled with ridiculous issues like warfare, disease and poverty. It did not make sense for humanity to spend so much money on weapons and so little on solving global problems. It did not make sense to have "exclusive tribes" such as families and countries which conflicted with my innate sense that everyone is equal no matter their biological or social relationship. What an illogical, primitive and dangerous world!
When I started to become aware of myself, I decided to better the human civilization. I wrote about how people could build better societies and change the world. I received many rejections and flame mails. Disheartened, I persisted even more.
