The subject of karma comes up often in my work with Chief Joseph. Someone recently asked us this question:
“What is the purpose of the Law of Karma? How does it help us in our evolution?”
Different people have different understandings of karma. Different religions and spiritual traditions have varying definitions of karma.
As I understand karma, it’s the principle of cause and effect, as we humans understand it in the context of linear time. Or, more simply, our choices create consequences. So all our experiences are the result of choices we’ve made, in this lifetime or other lifetimes.
That’s another way of saying what Joseph often says — we create our own realities. We are not victims of fate. Karma is not God’s way of punishing us for our misdeeds or sins. Our lives are not preordained agendas belonging to someone, human or spirit, outside ourselves.
Karma is simply the way the laws of the Universe work. We reap what we sow, and no one, except we ourselves, is responsible for the lives we are living.
Yet all the consequences of your choices will, must, manifest in your experiences.
Here’s Chief Joseph.

The subject of responsibility plays a big role in this discussion of karma.
Your modern world loves to abdicate its responsibility. All of you — individuals, groups, governments, churches, etc. — have at one time or another disclaimed or disowned the consequences of your choices.
Yet all the consequences of your choices will, must, manifest in your experiences.
You might prefer to think of it, in John’s words, as simple cause and effect. There’s more to it than that. But that is the basic essence of whatever you, individually or in groups, experience in your lives.
You created it, deliberately or by your ignorance of universal laws. You get what you focus on. It’s that simple. It’s cause and effect.
By denying your responsibility you are giving up your power. A perfect example of that is the lawsuit brought against a popular restaurant chain.
You are not the victims of restaurant companies, governments, churches, other people. You made your choices and those choices carry consequences. You may consider the consequences “good” or “bad.” Either way, they’re yours. You created them.
Nothing, no one writes the script of your life. Only you. You are not the victims of karma or fate. Nothing is predestined. You always have free will. If you’ve made a “bad” choice, you are totally free to make a better choice next time.
You are not shackled by your past choices, nor the past choices of anyone else. You are totally free. You, as your soul or higher self, knew that before you incarnated.
You have total freedom. Acknowledge that. Accept total responsibility for your own lives.
All your power is right here, right now. What you call the “past” or the “future” do not matter.
When you see that, and believe it, you are free. Freedom is the foundation of your being. To deny that is to deny your being.
Chief Joseph and John Cali are featured in a new documentary movie - Tuning In - that also interviews five other prominent American channels. Check out the movie trailer here.

John Cali Since 1992, John Cali has been communicating with a non-physical entity called Joseph. In one of his many physical lifetimes, this spirit was incarnated as the legendary Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe in what is now the state of Oregon in the northwestern USA. These messages are a blend of information from Joseph, other spirits in the "Joseph group," and John. Visit Chief Joseph’s and John’s website here: |
